Classic (but easy) Baked Alaska

Ingredients
Meringue:
  • 6 egg whites, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 teaspoon cream of tartar
Ice Cream and Cake Layer:
  • 8-10 scoops Neapolitan ice cream
  • 8-10 Oreo cookies, crushed
  • 6-8 Thin slices of pound cake Sarah Lee frozen pound cake works great.
Instructions
For the Ice Cream and Cake Layer:
  1. Line a large mixing bowl with plastic wrap.

  2. Scoop ice cream into the bowl.

  3. Add the layer crushed Oreos.

  4. Add the layers of pound cake.

  5. Cover with a layer of plastic wrap and freeze while making the meringue.

For the Meringue:
  1. In a mixing bowl whip egg whites on high speed.

  2. Slowly add in sugar and cream of tartar and whip until stiff peaks form.

Putting it together:
  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.

  2. Remove ice cream "bowl" from the freezer.

  3. Remove plastic wrap and flip upside down on a cookie sheet.

  4. Remove plastic wrap from other side.

  5. Cover in meringue.

  6. Bake for 10 minutes or until meringue is golden brown on the edges.
